TORONTO -- Police in Halton Region say that a single-vehicle collision has left a Toronto man dead.

It happened in the area of Number 5 Sideroad and Trafalgar Road in Halton Hills at around 5:30 p.m.

“Emergency services personnel responded to the scene and found a vehicle on its roof, in the ditch, on the north side (of) 5 Sideroad,” Halton police said in a statement. “Two occupants from the vehicle were located at the scene.”

A 42-year-old man who was riding as a passenger in the front seat was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

An 18-year-old woman from Brampton was driving the vehicle and sustained minor injuries. She was transported to hospital as a precaution.

According to police, preliminary information suggests that the vehicle, a grey Chevrolet Mailbu, was travelling westbound on 5 Sideroad when it left the roadway, struck a tree and rolled over into the ditch. 

It is not yet clear what caused the crash.

Number 5 Sideroad was closed between Sixth Line and Trafalgar Road for several hours while the Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact police.
