Toronto police are cautioning the public after a diseased coyote was spotted in Scarborough’s Morningside neighbourhood earlier this week.

Police say they were told about the sighting on Tuesday near the Military Trail and Morningside Avenue area.

The animal is described as having an injury to its left shoulder and is believed to be suffering from mange – a skin disease that causes hair loss, scabs and lesions.

Police believe the coyote might also be suffering from a brain disease and said the animal may be dangerous to the public as a result.

Animal Services and police urge anyone who sees the coyote to avoid it and contact 311.
