Police have closed a road near Caledon after a two-car rollover Friday afternoon left at least two people injured. One person is believed to have life-threatening injuries.

The closure applies to Olde Baseline Road between Heat Lake Road and Kennedy Road, the Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release.

Kennedy Road is also closed in both directions between Boston Hills Road and the Grange Sideroad as police deal with what they say is a serious collision.

One vehicle had been travelling southbound on Kennedy Road. The other had been going eastbound on Olde Baseline Road when the collision occurred around 1:40 p.m.

"For reasons yet to be determined, a GMC Envoy that was travelling southbound on Kennedy Road collided with a Honda Accord that was eastbound on Olde Base Line Road," the OPP said in a news release. "After the initial impact both vehicles rolled into the ditch."

ORNGE, which operates air ambulances, dispatched two to Brampton's airport. The patients, both occupants of the Accord, were picked up and taken by the air ambulances to Toronto's St. Michael's hospital. The male driver's injuries are considered to be life-threatening.

The female driver of the Envoy, the vehicle's lone occupant, was taken by ground ambulance to a local hospital as a precaution.

CP24 anchor Melissa Grelo said the collision occurred very near her parents' farm, where she is visiting. There were light flurries at the time, she said.

Slippery roads

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for parts of southern Ontario Friday morning, warning motorists to beware of roads slicked by freezing drizzle and snow squalls.

The statement covers a region spanning from London-Middlesex and the Niagara region, through the Greater Toronto Area to the Bruce Peninsula, Muskoka and Algonquin and east to Kingston-Prince Edward.

"Areas of freezing drizzle developed during the night across several regions of south Central Ontario into parts of ski country," the agency said, warning morning commuters "to exercise caution by slowing down."
