Toronto's Homicide Squad has arrested a second woman in connection with an alleged axe attack that left a man dead last year.

Nicola Puddicombe, 34, is set to appear in court on Thursday to face charges of conspiracy to commit murder and first-degree murder.

Puddicombe was arrested on Wednesday.

On Oct. 27, 2006, police found Dennis Hoy, 36, inside an apartment above a laundromat on Queensway Avenue, near Royal York Road.

Hoy, who sustained severe head wounds, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services.

A post-mortem examination confirmed Hoy died from serious head trauma. He was allegedly struck in the head with an axe.

Ashleigh Pechaluk, 22, of Toronto, was arrested at the scene and later charged with second-degree murder.

Hoy's death marked the city's 57th homicide of 2006.
