A second suspect wanted in connection with the murder of a homeless man in Toronto has surrendered to police.
Toronto police said Merhawi Tekle, 26, turned himself in just after 11 p.m. on Tuesday.
Tekle and a 14-year-old girl have both been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the beating death of Donald Constantine Jackson, 71.
Jackson was found unconscious at Pine Hills cemetery, located in the Kennedy and Danforth Roads area, at around 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 12.
The man reportedly got into a dispute with a woman before heading into the cemetery. Police allege the woman followed him into the cemetery and say a short time later, another man approached Jackson and allegedly assaulted him.
The two suspects left the scene as Jackson lay on the ground unconscious with life-threatening injuries.
After spending nearly a week in hospital, Jackson died of his injuries on Sept. 18. An autopsy ruled "blunt force trauma" as the cause of death.
On Sept. 21, a 14-year-old girl was taken into police custody. The Youth Criminal Justice Act prevents the media from publishing her name.
The same day, police issued a Canada-wide arrest warrant for Tekle.
Police said Wednesday that they were mistakenly told the deceased was a 61-year-old man named Benson Smith. Further investigation determined the victim's correct name and age.
