Sean Leathong
ContactSean Leathong joined CTV News Toronto as a videojournalist in April 2016. Previously, Leathong was a videographer/anchor at CHCH News in Hamilton, where he reported on a wide variety of topics including the 2015 federal election from Justin Trudeau’s campaign headquarters, the Calgary floods in 2013, and the Toronto International Film Festival.
Upon completion of a B.A. with Honours in History and Politics from Queen’s University, Leathong went on to earn a Master of Arts in Journalism from Western University in 2011. During his time at Western, he won the Hugh Bremner Award for demonstrating outstanding broadcast accomplishments among his peers. Leathong also won the Ursula Walford Memorial Award for displaying “an outstanding degree of the human qualities that are essential in professional journalism" as voted by his classmates.
Off camera, Leathong enjoys playing hockey in his spare time, having played Junior 'A' hockey for the Burlington Cougars in his youth.At Queen’s University, he played varsity hockey for four seasons and was named an alternate captain in his final year.
As a kid in Burlington, Ont., Leathong tuned in to CFTO World Beat News regularly with his family, and he is excited and honoured to work alongside the same team that he watched growing up.
