A west-end school was temporarily locked down on Tuesday after gunfire erupted following a drive-by shooting.

Toronto police said the drive-by occurred in the Flemington and Stockton roads area. A nearby school was locked down for a short time.

The target of the shooting returned fire on his attackers, police said. One victim managed to drive himself to Sunnybrook Hospital to treat an undisclosed injury.

Two vehicles were hit with bullets in the exchange.

Police are continuing to investigate.
