A mall security officer has been charged in connection with the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl in Scarborough.

According to Toronto police, a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy were at Parkway Mall, located near Ellesmere Road and Victoria Park Avenue, when they were approached on multiple occasions by a mall security officer.

The officer offered to give them access to a private room, police said.

Police said the officer then returned to the room and told them to leave. Once the boy left the room, police said the officer closed the door, with the girl still inside.

The security officer then sexually assaulted the girl, police allege.

On Thursday, 36-year-old Mervin Anderson of Toronto was arrested and charged with sexual assault, sexual exploitation and criminal harassment. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 26.

None of the charges has been proven in court.
