Students in north Scarborough were under lockdown for a little over an hour after a teen was stabbed behind school property, police said Tuesday.

Albert Campbell Collegiate Institute, in the McCowan and Finch Avenues area, was put under lockdown just before 1 p.m. when police received a call about the stabbing. The lockdown was lifted before 2:30 p.m.

The lockdown was lifted after police concluded the suspect was not inside the school and there was no immediate threat to the students. It is not known if the stabbing victim or the suspect are students at the school.

Toronto police spokesperson Wendy Drummond said police have a very limited description of the suspect. She said at about 12:45 p.m., the teenaged victim was in the wooded area around Brimley Woods Park when he was stabbed.

He was taken to hospital in serious condition. Drummond said the victim was conscious and breathing when he was tended to by paramedics.

Many students were on their lunch break when the stabbing occurred. Police were stationed inside the school and outside the property.

The large police presence includes uniformed officers and the K-9 unit, Drummond said.

She said anyone who may have seen someone running in the area, or has information about the incident should speak with police on the scene.

The suspect is described as being in his late teens. He was wearing shorts and was possibly shirtless.

The area is largely residential with several highrise buildings and a gas station in the immediate vicinity.
