Tributes are being posted on a Facebook page for Jerin Mir, a young woman who was studying medicine in Bangladesh. Authorities say she was killed by a train, but little is known about the circumstances of the incident.

The Daily Star newspaper reports that the victim’s uncle identified her as 22-year-old Mungerina Arabin Jerin. He said Jerin moved to Bangladesh in 2012 to study medicine at the Uttara Women’s Medical College.

The Facebook page is dedicated to "Jerin Mir."

Jerin was reportedly walking with a friend close to a train station in Dhaka on Saturday evening when the accident occurred. She was rushed to hospital with critical injuries and later pronounced dead.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade confirmed to CTV News that a Canadian has died in the country, but officials did not identify the victim.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of a Canadian citizen who passed away in Bangladesh,” a spokesperson said in an email. “Canadian consular officials are in contact with local authorities to gather additional information and are providing consular assistance to the family as required.”

The Daily Star reports that police are questioning the friend who was with Jerin when the accident occurred.
