A man in his 20s has been charged after allegedly attempting to disarm an officer while being arrested as a robbery suspect.

Police said a man entered a bank in the area of Gerrard and Yonge Streets on Saturday morning, and indicated that he had a gun. He demanded money, then fled the scene with a quantity of cash, police said.

Approximately eight hours later, a similar robbery was reported in the area of Yonge and Wellesley Streets. A man matching the description of the first suspect entered a restaurant and indicated that he had a gun. He demanded money, then fled with the restaurant's tip jar, police said.

The suspect was identified by police on patrol on Sunday, who tried to make an arrest. Police said the man resisted arrest, and attempted to disarm one of the officers.

Following the altercation, 27-year-old Jesse Iker was arrested and charged with two counts of robbery and disguise with intent. He was also charged with failure to comply with a probation order, assault with intent to resist arrest, two counts of assaulting a police officer and one count of attempting to disarm a peace officer.
