Former mayor Rob Ford will undergo surgery for his tumour on May 7, according to his brother Doug.
Doug Ford told CP24 Wednesday that he will accompany his brother to the hospital that day.
Doug Ford also said the former mayor will have diagnostic imaging tests in the new couple of days.
Rob Ford’s radiation treatments for abdominal cancer ended in late February. At the time, Ford told The Canadian Press that if an MRI revealed that his tumour had shrunk enough, doctors would operate at the end of April or the beginning of May.
"If it's not small enough, then that's not good news," Ford said at the time.
In December, Doug Ford had told reporters that chemotherapy had reduced Rob’s tumour by approximately half.
Upon the initial diagnosis last September, doctors had said the tumour measured 12 centimetres.
Rob Ford dropped out of the mayoral race last year after his diagnosis with pleomorphic liposarcoma, and instead ran for an Etobicoke council seat, which he easily won.
