Rob Ford’s most recent chemotherapy treatment did not work, and the Toronto councillor remains under 24-hour medical supervision, according to sources.
Sources told CP24 Ford’s family are by his side at Mt. Sinai Hospital, and doctors are trying to determine if the 46-year-old former mayor is healthy enough for another round of treatment.
Ford was admitted to hospital in late February for continued treatment of soft-tissue cancer known as pleomorphic liposarcoma.
Doctors located several tumours on his bladder.
Thousands of messages of support have been posted on a website set up for the councillor as he battles cancer.
In a brief statement Friday, Coun. Giorgio Mammoliti said Ford “truly loves the people of Toronto and never shied away from his responsibilities” even when he was under fire as mayor.
"I hope that everyone who made his time a living hell while he was mayor will respect his family's wishes for privacy now and leave it to the family to make updates public as they deem appropriate." Mammoliti said.
Other colleagues and the public have offered well-wishes for him and his family.
Thinking of Councillor @TorontoRobFord as he continues to battle cancer.
