KINGSTON, Ont. - Police in Kingston are thanking visiting officers who helped keep things relatively quiet at the Queen's University unofficial homecoming.

OPP and officers from places like Toronto, Belleville, and Durham monitored the event, which has seen rowdiness in past years.

Police say about five arrests were made early Saturday evening, mostly liquor infractions.

They have not yet released the number of people arrested overnight Saturday.

Police also received a couple of dozen noise complaints during the afternoon and early evening.

Two years ago, roughly 8,000 people crammed Kingston's street. Police made 140 arrests on a variety of charges.

The official homecoming celebration has been moved to the Spring, but thousands of students still gather for large street parties in late September.
