The driver of a vehicle involved in a horrible crash in the Niagara region early Monday will be facing charges when he is discharged from hospital, police say.
The 18-year-old will likely face a charge of impaired driving causing death, police said.
A Chevy Cavalier travelling the wrong way on the Garden City Skyway near St. Catharines collided head-on with a Honda Civic around 2:30 a.m., killing the passenger of the Civic.
That individual was a 50-year-old father of two. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Four passengers, including the man's daughters and wife, were taken to hospital. The mother of the girls, aged 7 and 11, is expected to survive. She had been driving the Civic.
She was airlifted to Toronto's Sunnybrook hospital, which has a trauma unit.
The two children were treated and released from hospital.
The family is from Kitchener. The driver of the Chevy is from Niagara Falls.
He was also airlifted to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police kept the Toronto-bound lanes of the QEW closed for about six hours while a collision reconstruction team conducted an investigation.
