A Toronto woman who bought a puppy from Kijiji is warning others about online pet sales after the dog she bought died six days into her care.

Rebecca Ramgoolam says she wanted to buy a Morkie as a surprise for daughter’s eighth birthday but found that breeders were asking for $1,200 or more for a puppy.

When she saw an ad online for less than half that price, she contacted the breeder.

“I saw an ad and it was $550. We contacted the seller and went and brought our little girl the next day,” Ramgoolam told CTV Toronto.

Ramgoolam says the seller assured the family that the puppy was 8 weeks old, had all her shots and had been dewormed.

Shortly after bringing Mocha the puppy home, Ramgoolam says she looked lethargic and sick. She decided to take her to the veterinarian for a check-up.

The veterinarian was surprised to see a two-month-old dog look so small in size. Mocha’s health took a turn for the worse and she died six days after she was brought home from the breeder.

Ramgoolam says she’s contacted the breeder after the puppy died, but the breeder told her to never call again and hung up the phone.

The breeder did not return CTV Toronto’s calls.

Ramgoolam says she is taking the breeder to court for the cost of the puppy and $800 in vet bills.
