BRANTFORD, Ont. - Police in the Ontario cities of Brantford, Halton, Hamilton and Niagara will use more than $1 million from the province to set up a joint forces operation.

Community Safety and Correctional Services Minister Monte Kwinter was in Brantford today to announce an investment of $1,260,000.

The funding is part of the government's $12-million anti-crime package announced last month by Premier Dalton McGuinty.

Brantford Police Chief Derek McElveny says the funding will help fight criminals that operate between the four communities.

Today's announcement is part of the government's plan to combat the spread of guns and gangs in Ontario.

Kwinter says tackling gun crimes are a challenge because criminal gangs are always adapting and evolving.
