Toronto police have charged 70 men in connection with a three-day sting operation targeting prostitution in the east end of the city.
Police officers from 54 Division targeted acts of prostitution happening on Danforth Avenue. The sting involved undercover officers posing as prosititutes and targeted people who offered them money in exchange for sexual acts.
Const. Wendy Drummond, spokesperson for Toronto Police, told CTV Toronto that some of the offences took place inside taxi cabs and involved the driver.
In total, eight of the 70 men arrested were licensed taxi cab drivers, she said. They were on duty at the time the alleged offences took place.
Drummond said she couldn't specify what area of Danforth Avenue 54 Division concentrated on in their investigation.
Each suspect has been charged with communicating for the purpose of obtaining sexual services of a prostitute.
One man is facing an additional charged of possession of a controlled substance.
Among the dozens arrested, police allege two of the suspects each solicited two undercover officers on the same night.
All suspects have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court at the end of November.
