With the unofficial start of summer comes the other unofficial season in Toronto: construction. On Tuesday, the city closed the Don Valley's Pottery Road, and it will stay that way until Sept. 5, the last day of the Labour Day weekend.

Pottery Road spans the east side of the valley north of Todmorden Mills Park. It will be closed in its entirety, from Bayview to Broadview Avenues.

Work crews will use the time to upgrade the area's storm drain system and improve the Lower Don bike trail.

The city plans to spend $130 million on road repairs this year, with work scheduled for the following streets:

  • Dundas Street from Dovercourt Road to Howard Park Avenue
  • Spadina Avenue, south of Front Street to the Gardiner Expressway
  • Victoria Park Avenue from Highway 401 to Finch Avenue
  • Humber College Boulevard from Highway 27 to Carrier Drive
  • Dufferin Street from Rogers Road to Eglinton Avenue
  • Finch Avenue from Yonge Street to Bayview Avenue.
  • Burnhamthorpe Road from Martin Grove Road to The East Mall
  • King Street West from Queen Street West to Close Avenue
  • Avenue Road at Eglinton Avenue West

The city has said it will also spend $80 million on water main and sewer replacement road work and other "public realm initiatives."
