TORONTO - The Canadian Union of Public Employees says some residents of long-term care homes in Ontario are facing poor living conditions.
CUPE Ontario president Sid Ryan is criticizing Health Minister George Smitherman for a lack of a standard of care.
One year ago, the union pressed Smitherman to establish an average of three-and-a-half hours of care per day per resident.
Bill 140, the Long-Term Care Act, is in the consultation process.
But Ryan says the time for talk is over.
Workers from long-term care facilities will hold information pickets today at MPP offices and nursing homes across the province.
