A peeping Tom has been prowling around a Toronto neighbourhood filled with university students, according to Toronto police.

Police in 53 Division have received "several" complaints from people living in the Bloor Street and St. George area who reported seeing a man lurking around their windows, according to Det. Sgt. Myron Demkiw.

The area, near the University of Toronto, has a high concentration of student housing.

Police are investigating whether the victims are all students.

"What we can say for sure is that it's in the same geography," Demkiw told CTV.ca. "It's happening in the area more frequently and we believe by the same person."

The suspect's actions are cause for concern, he said.

In one instance, a woman confronted the suspect but that didn't deter him.

One of the biggest challenges for detectives investigating the case is the lack of reporting on such incidents.

Often times, people don't realize what the person is doing when they see someone lurking in the shadows, he explained. Or they dismiss it as an incident not worth reporting to police.

"We definitely want to hear about this," Demkiw said.

In the meantime, people should not only be aware of their surroundings but they should also secure their property and cover their windows.

Police have a vague description of a suspect, often seen wearing dark-coloured clothing. He is believed to be between 20 and 30 years of age, between 5'10 and 6'1 with a thin build. He is white and clean shaven.

Potential sex offenders

Police also warned of potential sex offenders in other parts of the city.

One woman walking in the Dundas and River Streets area was grabbed from behind by a male suspect Wednesday night at around 7 p.m.

He tried to drag her away but she was able to escape.

The suspect is describes as being black, over 6', bald and clean shaven wearing a beige, waist-length, suede jacket.

Earlier last week on Jan. 3, a man allegedly try to lure a 14-year-old girl to his car.

Police say that at about 5 p.m., the teen was walking in the Dufferin Street and Eglinton Avenue area when a man stopped his car, opened the passenger door and tried to get her to come in.

The girl refused and walked to a nearby payphone to call a family member. The suspect parked his car and approached the girl again, asking her again to get in his car.

When the girl said no, the suspect allegedly tried to grab her arm. He ran off after she screamed and a citizen who was in the area ran over to help her.

The suspect in that case is described as white, possibly in his early twenties, slim with a round face and shoulder-length reddish brown hair.
