TORONTO - Durham police say officers used a Taser to subdue a man after they were threatened and assaulted during a domestic dispute in Pickering, east of Toronto.

Police say a teenager called 911 on Monday night to report a man armed with a metal pipe had broken into a home in the Valley Farm Road and Finch Avenue area, looking for a woman.

Police say the woman managed to escape to a neighbour's house but the armed man assaulted a male inside the home and caused extensive property damage.

It's alleged the suspect then came outside to confront police, threatening both officers and assaulting one of them, causing non-life threatening injuries.

It's also alleged the suspect struck the police cruiser, resulting in minor damage.

Police say the officers Tasered and arrested the man, and he was treated in hospital for a non-life-threatening injury he sustained in the home before police arrived.

A 36-year-old Pickering man is facing numerous assault and weapons-related charges.

He cannot be named to avoid identifying the woman.
