One man has been taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving following a crash that shut down Highway 427 early Thursday morning.
Ontario police said the driver was ejected through the vehicle's windshield and a passenger was also injured in the single-vehicle crash.
The crash occurred at about 1:30 a.m. when a Range Rover crashed into a barrier near Highway 427's eastbound exit onto Highway 401.
Police say the vehicle hit the guardrail and veered to the left, striking the highway's centre barrier. The driver was ejected through the windshield, police said.
The driver, a 36-year-old Etobicoke man, and a 23-year-old female passenger from Mississauga were injured in the crash and rushed to hospital.
Both were conscious and breathing when they were transported to hospital, but information on the full extent of their injuries was not immediately available.
Ontario Provincial Police said they had reason to suspect that alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.
OPP Sgt. Brad Muir said police took the male suspect into custody at the scene on suspicion of impaired driving and accompanied him to hospital.
Muir added that the occupants of the vehicle were not wearing seatbelts and it is suspected that the driver was distracted at the time of the crash.
