Toronto police have released surveillance images of a suspect they allege calmly stole almost a dozen pieces of art from the Hospital for Sick Children before leaving the hospital in a Mercedes-Benz.

Police say the man visited the Burton Wing of Sick Kids hospital in downtown Toronto on Thursday and stripped nine large framed prints from the walls.

The prints, 18" by 18" in size, are described as square pictures with an alphabet letter on each piece. Also taken was a plaque with the artist's name, Darren Rigo.

In surveillance photos released by police, a man can be seen walking through the hospital hallways and pushing a collection of large prints on a trolley.

The suspect is described as a white male with dark brown hair and dark-framed glasses. He was clean-shaven and wearing a dark long-sleeve shirt, dark pants and black shoes.

Police believe he may have left the hospital in a light-coloured four-door Mercedes-Benz.
