Police are searching for two suspects following a stabbing at an Etobicoke school that sent two teens to hospital Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called to Burnhamthorpe Collegiate and Adult Learning Centre near Burnhamthorpe Road and The East Mall at around 1 p.m. for a report of a stabbing outside the school.

When police arrived, they saw two victims were injured. The victims are believed to be 19 and 18 years old.

Though police confirmed that two suspects are outstanding, they were not able to immediately provide a description of them.

Speaking to reporters Wednesday afternoon, Toronto police Sgt. Wayne Jackson said it was a “possibility” that the victims are students at the school but he could not confirm that information.

The school was briefly placed under lockdown as a precaution. Neighbouring schools West Glen and Broadacres junior schools were also placed under a hold and secure until police gave the all-clear.

Jackson said that investigators discovered a second scene nearby related to the stabbing using a police dog. That’s where police found discarded items of clothings.

“We are looking at that scene as possibly where the suspects fled off to,” he told reporters.

The school’s principal, Patrick Knight, described the institution as a “very caring environment” and said the incident was unusual for the community.

“The students select this school – it’s their choice to come here,” Knight said. “These are students who have decided to create a second chance for themselves, and the TDSB has afforded them that opportunity to be successful.”

Police have obtained security camera footage and are reviewing the video as part of the ongoing investigation
