Toronto police are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect in a fatal shooting in Etobicoke last month.

Det.- Sgt. Joyce Schertzer gave an update on the shooting death of Alfredo Patriarca. Patriarca, 42, was shot and killed at his home, located at 519 The Kingsway, on Jan. 20.

Schertzer released video footage from surveillance cameras that shows Patriarca arriving home in his car that night, and driving directly into his garage shortly after 6:20 p.m.

Less than a minute after Patriarca arrives home, a suspect wearing a hooded jacket is seen briskly entering the garage by foot. The suspect, who Schertzer says appears to be holding something in his hand, flees the garage about eight seconds later.

In the video footage, the suspect's jacket appears to be white, but Schertzer says the jacket may actually be darker in real life.

She added that police believe that Patriarca was targeted.

"I do believe that this was targeted, and I do believe that someone was waiting for his arrival home," she said.

Schertzer said she hopes the release of the video will jog people's memories, and will encourage people to come forward with tips. In particular, she said there were at least seven cars that passed by during the incident.

Patriarca, who was married and had small children, had contact with police in the past, Schertzer said. But that contact was "very dated," she said.

She also said that Patriarca was present at the Sicilian Sidewalk Café in Toronto's Little Italy on June 18, 2012, when another patron was shot and killed. That man was later identified as 35-year-old John Raposo. Schertzer said she believes Patriarca was injured in that shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
