Police have released surveillance camera footage of a vicious assault on a 22-year-old woman outside a Richmond Hill bar in April.

The assault occurred shortly before 3 a.m. on April 15 in a parking lot outside a bar in the area of Highway 7 and East Beaver Creek Road.

Police say that two groups of people, who were unknown to each other, got into a fight inside the bar. The fight then spilled outside, where the 22-year-old woman was repeatedly struck.

In the video released by police, a man can be seen striking the woman in the face and knocking her to the ground. At that point another man can be seen whipping the woman with what appears to be a belt. The video then shows the woman getting up and being struck again by the first man again.

“Typically we like to get all the information we can and hopefully identify a suspect through traditional investigative techniques but unfortunately in this case it just hasn’t worked. People we have spoken with, some of them have been less than cooperative,” Constable Andy Pattenden told CP24 on Wednesday. “For that reason investigators have been left with no choice than to put this disturbing video out with the hopes that someone can tell us who this man is.”

Following the assault, the woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Pattenden said that though the woman has since been released from hospital, she is still dealing with the aftermath of the attack and may not ever “fully recover” from her injuries.

Meanwhile, Pattenden said that police have “exhausted” all leads and are hoping someone will be able to identify the culprit.

The suspect is described as South Asian, 25 to 30 years old with a medium build and black hair. He was last seen wearing a blue Adidas jacket.
