Toronto police say they have recovered 149 of 150 silver bars stolen around Christmas, arresting five people in the process.

The theft occurred sometime between Dec. 24 and Dec. 25 in the Albion Road and Steeles Avenue West area. The bars are said to have an estimated value of US$2 million.

In a news release issued Wednesday, the Toronto Police Service said officers with the major crime unit of 23 Division executed four search warrants and making the arrests.

"The names of the accused are not being released as the investigation is ongoing," it said.

The bars weigh 75 pounds each. Const. Jamie MacDonald told CTV News he had to lug many of the bars himself. As a result, he's seen enough silver for a while.
