Police are canvassing Toronto's High Park neighbourhood to reassure residents after a fatal stabbing last week that left a 52-year-old man dead.

Musa Yusuf was found suffering from serious stab wounds on Dec. 9 in an apartment building at 100 High Park Ave., near Bloor and Keele Streets. Witnesses previously told investigators that an assault had taken place on the sixth floor.

Yusuf was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Shortly after the stabbing, police arrested Yusuf's nephew, Guled Yusuf, a few kilometres from the scene. He was found naked and "acting suspiciously," police previously told CTV Toronto.

The 22-year-old has since been charged with second-degree murder. Police have said they are not looking for other suspects in connection with the stabbing.

On Sunday, Parkdale-High Park Coun. Sarah Doucette extended her condolences to the Yusuf family.

"My thoughts go out to the family and friends of Mr. Yusuf," Doucette told reporters, speaking near the scene of the homicide. "We do live in one of the safest neighbourhoods in the city."

Approximately a dozen officers are canvassing the area on Sunday, going door-to-door to assure residents that their neighbourhood is safe.
