A possible domestic dispute led to a crash and the death of a man on Highway 401 Monday night, and police are investigating the incident as a possible attempted murder-suicide.

A silver Pontiac Grand AM suddenly veered into the side of a transport truck in the eastbound express lanes in Pickering near Whites Road at about 10 p.m.

A woman who was a passenger in the car suffered minor injuries in the crash. But the incident did not end there.

"The adult male that was driving got out of the Pontiac and fled the scene," OPP Sgt. Cam Woolley told CTV News.

"About one kilometre east of here, he was run over, struck and killed by another tractor-trailer in the right hand lane," Woolley added.

Police are investigating whether the man intentionally threw himself at the vehicle.

The woman was taken to hospital with what police describe as non-life threatening injuries.

Names of the victim and the woman have not been released by police, and their relationship is also unknown.

Police said it was still not clear if the crash was an accident or intentional.
