Toronto police are investigating a pair of homicides which occurred over the weekend.

Police say they were called to 57 Mabelle Avenue at about 9:25 p.m. on Saturday, where they found a man in a stairwell who had been shot and had "obvious trauma to his body." He was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Sunday, the victim was identified as Byron Jones, a 20-year-old Toronto man.

A post-mortem examination will take place at a later date. The case remains under investigation.

A second shooting, on Bleecker Street in St. James Town, also occurred on Saturday just before midnight.

The victim was 29, and he reportedly tried to run away from his assailants after two groups confronted each other.

Det. Stacy Gallant said that police will be going through security surveillance in the search for suspects.
