Police say they have yet to determine a motive after a father of five was killed in a stabbing outside a Toronto Community Housing Complex in Etobicoke early Saturday morning.

Investigators have released little information about the crime, but say they are speaking to a number of witnesses in the area.

“We have some surveillance video to review and look at,” Sgt. Mike Carbone said.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. Saturday, at a Toronto Community Housing complex on The West Mall, near Highway 427 and Rathburn Road.

When emergency responders arrived, they found a man who had been stabbed more than once. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Friends and family of the man, believed to be in his 40s, say they are struggling to understand why he was targeted in the attack.

“He’s a small giant, with a big heart. I can’t believe that somebody would do this to him,” friend Clive Collins told CP24.

The Toronto Police homicide unit is investigating, and said they believe the attack was targeted. They also said at this point, the case does not appear to be gang-related.

Police do not have a description of any potential suspects.
