Toronto police are investigating a Wednesday afternoon shooting homicide in the city's north end that left a youth dead inside a community housing property's doors.

"We have deployed as many officers as possible to look into this matter," Sgt. Orang Momemi told reporters at the scene.

Homicide investigators are at the scene, he said.

The incident took place shortly after 4 p.m. at 135 Neptune Dr., which is in the Rajah Park neighbourhood just south of Highway 401 and midway between Bathurst Street and the Allen Road.

Neighbours called 911.

CTV Toronto reported the shooting occurred just inside a side door to the building, which is a Toronto Community Housing property.

Toronto EMS told CTV News the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim is believed to be a male under the age of 20. Some neighbours said the victim is only 16 years old.

There are no descriptions available yet of any suspects, and no one has been taken into custody.

Police have not yet publicly identified the victim, but they have informed his very distraught family.

The crime scene is about a half-kilometre north of Cather Crescent, which had been the location of a few shootings earlier this year, including one homicide.
