Durham Regional Police homicide detectives and the Ontario Fire Marshall's Office are jointly investigating a Scugog Township fire that left a woman dead.

Sunday's fire broke out about 6 p.m. in a home located at the intersection of Regional Road 57 and Hiawatha Road in Caesarea.

"Two residents suffered injuries and a third resident was located in the residence, deceased," Durham police said Monday in a news release.

The two injured people had reportedly entered the home to search for the woman.

The fire was mostly confined to the top floor, attic and roof of the two-storey home.

Police ask anyone with information that can help advance the investigation to call Det. Darren Short at 905-579-1520, ext. 5407.
