Toronto police are investigating an early morning hit-and-run crash that killed one person and sent another to hospital.

The head-on collision took place at about 5:30 a.m. on Caledonia Road, just north of Eglinton Avenue.

Police said a man was found with vital signs absent while his female passenger was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Officers scoured the area for the driver of the other vehicle, who fled the scene on foot.

Meanwhile, a female motorist was killed in a four-car crash on Highway 403 in Mississauga.

Provincial police said two cars collided in the eastbound lanes of the highway near Mavis Road just before midnight.

A third vehicle stopped to offer assistance and was hit by a fourth vehicle.

The woman, who was in the fourth vehicle, died of her injuries in hospital.

Two other people were injured. One is in critical condition, the other in serious but stable condition.

No names have been released.
