Toronto police are looking for a suspect after someone fired a shotgun at a York University campus apartment Saturday morning.

Police say a shotgun was fired through the door of an apartment on the 10th floor of a student residence highrise on Assiniboine Road around 6:45 a.m.

A female student, believed to be in her 20s, was inside at the time but she wasn't hurt.

Elyssa Pomoa, another student who lives in the building, told CTV Toronto she was startled awake by a "very, very loud noise."

Police say the shooter deliberately targeted the student's door, but they don't know why. They don't believe the perpetrator knew who was inside the apartment.

Pomoa said the blast left her and other students on edge.

"Because we know so little of what happened, that's the scariest part."

Police are now reviewing security camera footage to see if the suspect was caught on tape.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 416-808-3100 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
