Toronto police have identified the city’s latest homicide victim as Than Nguyen, a 25-year-old Toronto man known to his friends as ‘Tony.’

Nguyen was pronounced dead after an early morning shooting in North York Sunday.

It happened outside a club called on Signet Drive near Finch Avenue and Highway 400 at around 5:15 a.m.

The victim was found in the rear parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead on scene.

“What we know at this time is that our victim came out of a nightclub at this location, there was some type of altercation in the parking lot leading to the shooting, he was shot multiple times and he was pronounced dead on scene,” Inspector Tim Crone told CP24 Sunday morning. “There were other people in the parking lot at the time and right now our officers are interviewing several of them.”

Initial reports from the scene suggested that a black vehicle had pulled up beside the suspect and its driver stepped out and fired several shots before getting back in the vehicle and fleeing southbound on Signet Drive.

Crone said police do believe the suspect fled in a vehicle but could not confirm the other details or provide a description.

“That’s information we are working on at the moment” Crone said. “We believe a vehicle was involved and we are trying to identify that vehicle.”

Police said Sunday evening they believe Nguyen had been inside the club prior to the shooting.

No suspect information is available at this time.

Police are asking any witnesses who were at the club, or anyone with information to contact police at 416-808-7400 or to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
