Homicide detectives and forensic investigators are trying to identify a person whose skull was found near a golf course in Vaughan on the weekend.

In what has been classified so far as a suspicious incident, investigators are trying to confirm whether the person was the victim of foul play, and how the skull wound up on the side of a highway.

York Regional Police do not know the person’s age, gender or race.

The skull was found by a passerby near Uplands Golf and Ski Club, near Bathurst Street and Highway 407, on Sunday at about 2:30 p.m.

The passerby took a photograph of the skull and sent it to police, who arrived at the scene with a coroner.

Shortly after the gruesome discovery, police confirmed skull is human.

The area where the skull was found was still sealed off by police tape Monday, as officers search for clues.
