Police in Pickering, Ont. spent Wednesday at the scene of a double homicide after two men were discovered shot to death in the trunk of a car.

Neighbours alerted police on Tuesday to a suspicious vehicle parked on a side country road near Taunton and Rosebank Roads.

Investigators found the car at around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

When they inspected the vehicle, they found the bodies of two men in trunk. Both men died from gunshot wounds.

The car was rented from a Toronto rental agency and was first spotted by a bus driver who told police she saw the car parked on the road Monday night at around 9:45 p.m.

Police say they are investigating the case as a double homicide.

"We're looking for suspects," Det. Mitch Martin told a cluster of reporters at the scene. "We don't have anybody in custody. The act does not appear to be random to me. We are looking for suspects but I believe the residents of the area are safe."

Two men who heard about the police discovery on the news rushed to the scene to speak with police. One of the men told CTV Toronto that his brother had been missing for two days and it's believed that he too rented a car in Toronto.

After speaking with police, the men drove away.

The murders are Durham's second and third homicide of the year but Durham police were called to another murder probe in the region before Tuesday was over.

Authorities rushed to a rooming house in downtown Oshawa at around 10 p.m. Tuesday, police said in a news release.

There they found the body of a 61-year-old woman inside a home on Celina Street. Police say she was suffering from obvious signs of trauma but did not confirm reports she was stabbed.

A 53-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the murder.

Police said the two women were acquaintances.

Linda LaFleur has been charged with first-degree murder.
