Peel Regional police officers found a 17-year-old kidnap victim in the trunk of a car during an early-morning traffic stop in Brampton on Monday.

Police stopped the vehicle at about 3:50 a.m. in the Sandalwood Parkway East and Bramalea Road area and realized its occupants were linked to a kidnapping incident from earlier in the morning.

Officers arrested the driver and passengers of the vehicle and found the victim after conducting a vehicle search. The victim had suffered minor injuries.

Police allege the kidnapping was the result of an unpaid drug debt.

Six suspects including Peter Connolly, 26, Neshaul Latchman, 28, David Connolly, 19, Theodore Van Boort, 19, and Phabian Campbell, 19, were arrested and charged with various counts of kidnapping, extortion, assault with a weapon and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

All of the suspects were held for a bail hearing and appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Monday.
