Toronto Police have confirmed that the body found in the waters near Polson Pier on Thursday morning, was that of a missing Peterborough-area teenager.

Mason MacPhail, 16, was last seen when he attended a concert at the Sound Academy, at 11 Polson St. and got separated from three of his friends on Tuesday evening.

MacPhail suffered from Asperger's Syndrome, an autism spectrum disorder, and was reportedly not good with direction.

The trip to the concert was his first visit to Toronto without his parents.

Police say the family has asked for privacy as they come to terms with their loss.

A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Det. Sgt. Howie Page said the teen was "escorted from the club" prior to his disappearance, though it is not clear if that incident was related to his death.

"We just know that there was an altercation in the club shortly after 8 p.m. resulting in Mason being escorted from the club," Page said.

MacPhail's relatives are still coming to grips with the tragic news.

Page said the teenager's mother is "distraught" with the news that her son is dead.

One of MacPhail's relatives said anyone who might have been involved with his death -- or in the apparent altercation at the Sound Academy -- should come forward.

"I believe that whoever did this that they should come forward and let the family know what exactly happened with Mason that night," Michelle McKibbon said Thursday.
