Police have charged a Toronto man in connection with a rash of bank robberies that investigators say was committed by a suspect dubbed the "Box Cutter Bandit."

The Toronto Police Services' hold-up squad say three banks in the city’s west end were robbed in March – with two of the holdups happening on the same day.

On March 12 at around 3:10 p.m., police say a Royal Bank in the Bloor Street West and Royal York Road area was robbed. Less than an hour later, at around 3:45 p.m., police say a Scotiabank in the Bloor Street West and Windermere Avenue area was also robbed. Two weeks later, on March 26, at around 3:40 p.m., police say a CIBC branch located at Bloor Street West and Royal York Road was robbed.

In all three holdups, police say the suspect approached a teller, leaned into the counter and displayed a box-cutter style knife in his right hand.

John Castonguay, 46, has been charged with three counts of robbery and three counts of possession of a weapon. He was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday at 10 a.m.

"Mummy Bandit" strikes again

Meanwhile, police have released additional images of another bank robbery suspect, dubbed the "Mummy Bandit," after it is believed he robbed another bank this week.

Toronto police said the suspect entered a bank in the King Street West and Strachan Avenue area on Monday with a handgun and a knife. Police say he held the knife to an employee’s throat while demanding money.

Police have previously described the “Mummy Bandit” as dangerous. He is believed to have robbed 10 banks in the downtown core since last October.

He is described as white, between 20- and 30-years-old, and is between 5'6 and 5'10 tall.
