Toronto police have charged administrators of a North York school with failing to report an alleged sexual assault on a student.
A former principal and two vice-principals at C.W. Jefferys Collegiate were charged under the Ontario Child and Family Services Act.
It is alleged that the assault was reported to administrators but that they did not forward the complaint to authorities.
The Toronto District School Board reassigned the administrators to other duties while police investigated the situation.
The principal has been identified as Charis Newton-Thompson and the vice-principals as Silvio Tallevi and Stan Gordon. Tallevi has since retired.
A panel reviewing safety in Toronto schools found out about the alleged sex assault on a 14-year-old girl and forwarded the information to police.
Since then, six male suspects have been charged with gang sexual assault, forcible confinement and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
The review was sparked after another unrelated incident at Jefferys. Jordan Manners, a 15-year-old student at the school, was shot and killed in the school hallway in May, 2007.
