A Niagara Falls man is charged with aggravated assault after police say a 20-year-old man was intentionally struck with a vehicle and left for dead.

The victim was found on a country road in the Niagara Falls area around 1 a.m. Saturday suffering life-threatening injuries, police said.

Frank Elia was initially charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident, impaired operation of a vehicle and attempted murder.

Further investigation resulted in additional charges of criminal negligence causing bodily harm and aggravated assault.

Elia is to appear in a St.Catharine's court Sunday.

The victim remains in hospital in critical condition.
