The son of a Toronto woman who was found dead in her west-end condominium Wednesday morning has been arrested.

The man, in his 40s, was taken into custody after police found the woman dead in a third-floor apartment at 240 Scarlett Rd., near Eglinton Avenue West.

"There was a male individual, early 40s, arrested at the scene," Insp. Reuben Stroble told reporters. "As to the relationship with the deceased, I have no information."

The forensic identification unit came to process evidence. Homicide detectives also came to the scene.

Police received a call about an assault around 7:45 a.m. Three people were initially believed to have been hurt.

CTV Toronto's Galit Solomon reported that the man had lived with his mother for years, but left several months ago before returning days ago. Some allege the two had a troubled relationship, she said.

One witness said he was in the apartment when police arrived, she said.

Solomon said the woman had called 911.

"It was not a priority call at the time," said Det. Stacy Gallant of the homicide squad. "Obviously, once they got there, things changed."

Solomon said police recovered a weapon, but won't say what it was.

As of late Wednesday evening, Toronto Police had not yet issued a news release identifying the man or saying if he had been charged in connection with the death.
