A 57-year-old dance and karate instructor is facing charges in connection with a sexual assault investigation in Brampton.

A nine-year-old girl told police that over a certain period of time, she was sexually assaulted by her male instructor while she was alone with him at a karate studio in the Bovaird Drive and Willams Parkway area.

Police confirmed the girl was the instructor’s student during those times.

As a result of the investigation, Toronto resident Satnam Rayat was arrested on Sept. 24. He was charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching. He was held for a bail hearing the following day.

Rayat is the owner and operator of Rayat Karate, police said, and teaches classes in Mississauga, Burlington and Toronto.

The Special Victims Unit is still investigating and is asking anyone with information to come forward.
