TORONTO - Police have arrested 40 men and laid 63 charges following a four-day `john' sweep in downtown Toronto.

Plainclothes officers conducted the sweep along two downtown streets in response to community complaints of prostitution.

The accused were arrested on charges of communicating for the purpose of obtaining the sexual services of a prostitute.

Charges also include drug trafficking.

Police say they will continue with enforcement in a bid to reduce prostitution-related activities in these areas.
