Another high profile New Democrat has thrown his support behind leadership hopeful Peggy Nash.

Jonah Schein, NDP's provincial urban transport and the environment critic, indicated his support for Nash during a Toronto town hall meeting Monday night.

"From the beginning, I've said that my choice was going to be based on finding a candidate who has the language skills to hold onto our success in Quebec, who has a solid foundation in progressive and movement politics, and who is a real social democrat," he said in a release. "Our leader has got to be Peggy."

Others to endorse Nash include Denise Savoie, MP and Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, Mike Sullivan, York-South Weston MP, and Lorraine Michael, leader Newfoundland and Labrador NDP.

The party chooses its leader, to replace Jack Layton, on March 24 in Toronto.

Those in the running include Nash, Brian Topp, Nathan Cullen, Paul Dewar, Niki Ashton, Thomas Mulcair and Martin Singh.
