MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - The province's Special Investigations Unit says a Peel regional police officer is facing an assault charge after a man was injured in Brampton, Ont.
The agency says in a release that Peel officers were patrolling the area near the Bramalea City Centre bus terminal on Aug. 19, when they witnessed a conversation between a security guard and Robert Wilson, 51.
The release says officers became involved and arrested Wilson, and that he sustained injuries to his face and head and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Const. Christopher Furlotte is charged with assault causing bodily harm.
He's scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Nov. 15.
The Special Investigations Unit looks into reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
