Peel police have arrested a 16-year-old male in connection with a fatal stabbing at a party in Mississauga last weekend.

The incident occurred Sunday at a Rosewater Court residence.

"Investigators have determined that a dispute occurred between the victims and a group of males at a nearby party," police said in a news release issued Saturday.

"The dispute is believed to have moved onto the street, where at some point two individuals were stabbed, with one victim sustaining fatal injuries. The group of males then fled the area."

Paramedics rushed Mississauga resident Brandon Paltooram, 19, to a local hospital where doctors later pronounced him dead.

A 20-year-old Toronto man remains in hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive. Police won't release his name, citing privacy reasons.

The 16-year-old accused, who can't be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was to make a court appearance in Brampton on Saturday. He faces charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder.

"Detectives continue to aggressively investigate this matter and strongly urge other individuals who were involved in the altercation to come forward," police said.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has information regarding it, is asked to contact the Homicide Bureau at (905) 453-2121, ext. 3205. Witnesses may also provide an anonymous tip by calling Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)."

Dharamdial

On Friday, Peel police asked the killers of Ravi Rajiv Dharamdial, 14, to turn themselves in.

"Carefully consider (your) options today," Insp. Ed English told a news conference. "Contact a lawyer. Surrender yourself to officers. We're not going away until you are brought to justice."

He described the investigation as going extremely well.

Dharamdial died Tuesday in a grassy field a few hundred metres from his home. He'd been stabbed by two young offenders who had been following him. Dharamdial called 911 as he lay dying, but paramedics were unable to save him.

Family and friends are devastated by the loss of someone they call a good son, excellent student and nice guy who never got in any trouble.

About 300 people held a candlelight vigil on Friday night at the sop where Ravi died.

"Nobody could ask for a better son," sobbed his mother Sunita. "He was everything to me and my husband. They took away our life, our hopes."
